A Candid Assessment of the GlocalMe WiFi Hotspot: A Review

This review will test out the GlocalMe Portable Hotspot and let you know what we think of it.

We’re constantly looking for fast, reliable Wi-Fi. We travel a lot, work from home or on the move and even homeschool. So, dependable internet service is a must.

Review of GLOCALME

The GlocalMe G4 PRO, which is the device that we used for the review, is a touchscreen Wi-Fi data hotspot. It allows you to connect 10 devices to the Internet at once. The GlocalMe G4 PRO works anywhere with cell coverage and is pocket-sized so it fits into your back pocket or backpack.

Here’s our review of GlocaMe G4 Pro, the flagship smartphone.

Pros:

  • Internet coverage in more than 140 countries
  • pay-as-you go
  • Doubles as a Power Bank
  • Supports 4g LTE at speeds of up to 50mbps and 150mbps (depending upon connection).
  • Easy to use touchscreen that shows battery level and remaining data.
  • Long 18-hour battery life
  • no sim card required
  • Connect up to 10 devices

CONS

  • Finding the right data package can be confusing
  • It can weigh you down financially

Download GLOCALME at a faster speed

The first thing I tried to do after I had GlocalMe running was a speed check. My connection was immediately listed as 28 Mbps. It’s not bad for the first time. This is fast enough for a movie in 4K. The upload was limited to 6 Mbps, but that’s plenty for our needs.

WHY GET A MOBILE WIFI DEVICE?

Saving money on roaming fees with a portable WiFi hotspot is possible. This eliminates data limits when travelling and allows families to share one connection instead of buying sims for everyone. This allows for easier access when you are traveling around Europe and neighboring countries, which require sim cards in every country.

A dedicated WiFi device will also help you save battery power on your phone (instead of using it as a mobile hotspot), and connect your laptop, tablet, or other WiFi devices to the Internet.

It’s great to be able to access the internet wherever you are, as we use it for our work and studies. No more using the notoriously buggy Wi-Fi borrowed from cafes, stores or hotels.

We often use AirBnBs to stay for extended periods of time. Having another way to access the internet while out is great. It saves us having to look up local options and pick up SIM cards (which are not available in all countries if you aren’t a native).

The fact that we can all go online simultaneously and have our laptops linked is a source of happiness for all.

GLOCALME PRO G4 REVIEW

The GlocalMe PRO has really impressed me.

The G4 was the first touchscreen Wi-Fi travel hotspot I had ever used. In the past, it was necessary to use an app to check how much data or battery power I still had. All of this information can be found on the GlocalMe G4 Pro’s 5 inch screen.

It comes pre-installed with Google Maps, TripAdvisor and Google Maps. It almost feels like using a phone to configure things. The interface is simple and has only the essential features.

The G4 PRO also works well for a family of four, as it can connect up to 10 devices. The G4 PRO allows us to connect each of our smartphones and still have six other connections for tablets, laptops and other devices.

It’s great to have a 3900mAh battery which can last up to 18-hours for road trips or just to walk around the city. Although we haven’t yet tested this limit, it seems to be able to maintain a good charge.

GlocalMe G4 PRO includes a free data package of 8GB local and 1GB global. Glocalme touchscreen allows you to add additional data whenever needed.

G4 Pro features include:

  • Two nano SIM slots.
  • Disables data usage when setting automatic.
  • Use the charger option to charge your smartphone
  • Fast charging USB C as well as USB 2.0 ports
  • Cost: $169.00

GlocalMe Hotspots can be purchased outright or rented.

Renting a car in the US and Canada is free. Prices are dependent on your destination and may include data packages.

GLOCALME App

GlocalMe is compatible with iOS and Android. You can add data to the app, track usage and battery life.

This app is particularly useful for GlocalMe U3 Wireless Devices, as they don’t have a touchscreen.

GLOCALME

The GlocalMeU3 offers a smaller and more affordable WiFi hotspot. The U3’s biggest disadvantage is its lack of touchscreen.

  • Slim and light
  • Compatible with up to 10 devices
  • Cost: $119.99
  • Included: 8GB of local data + 1GB global data
  • It doesn’t come with a touch screen, so it relies on a tablet or phone to connect and set up the device.

GLOCALME DUO TURBO

Turbo will be the best choice for those who cannot afford to lose their internet. Dual-modem Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspots ensure constant connectivity. The second modem will be on standby while one is in use. This reduces the chances of dropped connections.

  • Touchscreen Small, 2.4″
  • Battery life of 12 hours
  • 3,500 mAh battery
  • Single nano SIM slot
  • Cost: $149.99
  • Included: 8GB of Local Data and 1GB of Global Data

GLOCALME DATA PLAN

GlocalMe offers 3 hotspots with 8GB local data and 1GB global data for free.

GlocalMe then offers local and global data pay as you go plans.

Monthly passes are available in 7-day or 30-day packages. Data packages of 10GB, 12GB, and 3GB are also available.

There are local packages available in the USA, North America (Canada), China, Europe, Japan and Korea. Also, there is a Global 10GB 180-Day Package. A Global 10GB Package is also available.

GlocalMe’s data plans are priced based on your location and the amount of data that you require.

The monthly USA pass comes with unlimited data and is $99 per month.

The price for a 10GB, 180-day package is $98.

GLOCALME UNLIMITED DATA

GlocalMe is truly unlimited.

GlocalMe says: “The Unlimited Data Service is Affected by Fair Usage Policy, and the Maximum data Speed will be Limited to 256kbps Once you reach the FUP Threshold.” This sounds to me like you can have your data usage (and speed) limited if you are using lots of data all at once. It doesn’t specify how much data is over the Fair Use Policy.

Moreover, the priority of different data packages is different. GlocalMe, for example says that the 10GB 180 Day Package Global BIZ has “lower priority than unlimited data packages.”

GLOCALME

GlocalMe does not offer SIM-only packages at this time.

It does however offer GlocalMe SIMBOX.

GLOCALME SimBOX

GlocalMe SIMBOX allows you to switch SIM cards depending on your location. Switching SIM cards on your cell phone allows you to avoid expensive roaming and long distance charges. This is great for international students, frequent travelers and users who work abroad.

There are four SIM cards slots, but it appears that only two can be used at a time.

SIMBOX is often used to connect to a device that’s in another country via its app. The SIMBOX app allows you to make and receive calls in your home country (perfect for receiving SMS confirmations when out of the country).

Also, it has:

  • 1 X Micro USB interface
  • Four (4) Standard SIM Slots
  • One RJ45 Ethernet slot

To register the SIMBOX and activate it, you’ll have to install and download the GlocalMe Call app.

GlocalMe SIMBOXes are not currently available. They also do not support Verizon or Sprint.

Can I buy GLOCALME on Amazon?

GlocalMe is available on Amazon as well as the GlocalMe site.

GLOCALME COVERAGE MAPS

GlocalMe is available in more than 140 countries. It works like any WiFi hotspot including Skyroam Solis or Tep Travelwifi. Keepgo also only where there is a cell phone signal. The hotspot won’t function in an aircraft or the middle of the sea, as there’s no cellular reception.
